Specola della Eimmart is a small architectural sculpture inspired by the astronomical illustrations of German astronomer, artist and engraver Maria Clara Eimmert (1676-1707) in the scientific collection of the University of Bologna. Created in pale pastels on dark blue cardboard, the drawings offer a detailed account of her astronomical observations and her artistic ability as unique female scientist of her time.
Specola della Eimmart proposes a new form of astronomical observatory, a conceptual architecture in constant flow responding to the celestial movements and the changing configurations of the planets.
Specola della Eimmart has been developed for A Scientific Encounter: The Complex at Palazzo Poggi, Bologna.
