This musical composition combines the expressive tonal range of traditional Japanese flute music with the spatial sound experience of a crowded football stadium. It was created by manipulating and layering sound recordings of crowds at an Intertoto football match between Newcastle United and 1860 Munich at St James' Park.
Muraiki was originally presented as a multi-speaker sound installation at Tube Galerie, Munich and at Globe Gallery, North Shelds, in 2002.
